AB Taking the hypothetical example of an HIV positive dentist who wishes to
continue practicing, this paper explores the ethical issues facing a
clinician who must decide whether or not to breach confidentiality when
others are placed at risk of contracting HIV. In addition the paper
explores the common law and statutory legal situation in Australia
regarding such breaches and makes some comments on the clinical
management of this very rare, but important dilemma.
